ED Visa — Quick Facts

  • Who it’s for: Foreign students who want to study Thai long-term at an MOE-licensed school (like TSL Chiangmai).

  • Validity & extension: 90 days first, then extend in Thailand every 90 days for your course length (attendance required).

  • Attendance rule: 80%+ attendance each 90-day period.

  • Policy: Class hours are non-transferable and non-refundable; unused hours expire at the end of each 90-day cycle.


Who Can Apply (Nationality & Age)

  • All nationalities and ages are welcome. The MOE does not restrict eligibility by nationality, age, or background.

  • Some passports may need a criminal background certificate before enrollment (MOE rule). We will guide you.

Notes — ED Visa Course (TSL Chiangmai)

  • Fees include: tuition, textbooks, audio materials, paperwork preparation.

  • Study hours: Thai language and Thai culture classes both count toward your total ED Visa study hours.

  • Culture lessons: All ED-Visa Thai courses include culture modules (traditions, local customs, festivals, Thai cooking class, Muay Thai, sightseeing, etc.).

 

TSL ED-Visa course schedules

  • Saturday classes: 2–3 hours, depending on weekly topic and planned activities.

  • ED Visa support is available exclusively for officially enrolled students who are genuinely studying the Thai language and culture through accredited courses at TSL Chiang Mai.
    The school provides visa-related documentation only for active students participating in recognized educational programs in compliance with the Ministry of Education and Thai Immigration regulations.

 

Thai Education Visa (ED Visa) Application Process | TSL Chiangmai

TSL Chiangmai is an MOE-licensed Thai language school with an Immigration-approved curriculum for issuing and extending the Non-Immigrant Education Visa (ED Visa).


Step 1 — Course Enrollment

1.1 Download & fill the form

1.2 Email required documents to tslchiangmai@gmail.com 

  • Completed Enrollment/Application Form

  • Personal history & study purpose statement

  • Passport bio-data page (clear color scan)

  • Application & Acknowledgement Form

  • Passport-style photo (white background)

1.3 Arrange payment

  • Pay the selected ED-Visa course tuition (Payment Method)

  • Email the payment slip as confirmation.

  • Enrollment is complete after the full tuition fee is received.


Step 2 — Apply for the Education Visa (ED Visa)

MOE approval documents (required):
TSL Chiangmai obtains your MOE Approval Letter and Letter of Acceptance.
Processing time: approximately 30–45 days.

2.1 Applying outside Thailand (Thai e-Visa)

  • Official website to apply for ED visa : thaievisa.go.th

  • After enrollment & payment, TSL prepares all school documents and emails you the scanned pack.

  • Upload these files (plus any embassy-specific items) to the Thai e-Visa website.

  • Approval time: typically 2–3 weeks after submission.

  • When approved, you receive your ED E-Visa files by email and must enter Thailand within 90 days of issuance.

On arrival:
Show your ED E-Visa file to the immigration officer. Confirm your passport is stamped “Non-Immigrant ED” with 90 days from the date of entry.

2.2 Applying inside Thailand (Visa Conversion, Chiang Mai Immigration)

You may convert a Tourist Visa or Visa Exemption to an ED Visa at Chiang Mai Immigration.

Conditions:

  • Your current permission to stay must have ≥ 2 months remaining to finish conversion.

  • TM30 (residence notification) and Lease/Rental agreement in Chiang Mai are required.

  • On the submission date, your current Tourist/Exemption status must be valid for ≥ 21 days.

  • An additional 30-day extension (1,900 THB) may be required before conversion.

  • Government conversion/extension fees are not included in tuition.


Step 3 — Start Your Course in Chiang Mai

  • Group classes begin in the first week of each month.

  • After your visa and enrollment are confirmed, you’ll receive an official invitation email with your class schedule, orientation, and course details.

  • We place you in the right level, guide you through orientation, and provide a supportive, interactive learning environment.


Step 4 — ED Visa Extension (Every 90 Days)

The ED Visa grants 90 days per entry. Before expiry, apply for an extension at Chiang Mai Immigration.

Required:

  • Current TM30 (residence notification)

  • Current lease/rental agreement in Chiang Mai

  • Extension Document: We prepare your supporting papers ~2 weeks before expiry and notify you when they’re ready. You will complete the immigration form and submit your extension.

Important:
If your passport is updated/renewed/replaced, inform TSL immediately so we can update visa and MOE records.
